Welcome, and thank you for being here. My name is Rosanna Rossi and I'm the owner of Sweet Dessert Bar & Co. Just a little bit about me... I'm married to my best friend, Jeff, the greatest supporter of all my crazy ideas. I'm a mom of 2 year old twin girls, Emma and Evie, who keep me busy but I wouldn't want it any other way. I'm also a dog mom to Luna, who is the sweetest German Shepard / Husky cross you’ll ever meet. About 5 years ago, I started baking as a stress reliever to help cope during a very tough time in my life. I just loved having a creative outlet to focus on, perfect, and enjoy. But what started as a hobby quickly turned into my custom cake and sweet table business. Over the years, I have been honoured to take part in the special days of so many people, allowing others to enjoy the artistic and tasty creations that I endeavour to bring to life.
Fast forward to 2020... Can you believe its fall already? This is the time of year when I normally do most of my reflection on how things have gone and where to go next. Needless to say, this year has been a little different on many fronts. The event industry has taken a big hit due to the pandemic and it is unfortunate that many places have had to close their doors permanently. But even those that remain opened were forced to think outside the box to ensure that they could continue to run their businesses in this ”new” normal environment. Many have had to augment or even completely change their business model altogether. For me, as a business that depends on social gatherings, this year has been hard. But taking what I have learned from the past 5 years of specializing in custom event cakes and sweets has led me to create sweetdessertbarandco.com
Throughout all of the weddings and events that I’ve been a part of, it was always evident to me that the style and visual setup of the sweet table was just as important as the sweets themselves. With this in mind, I set out to create an online shop where people can come and purchase home decor, kitchenware, and baking/pantry items all in the same location. I have curated some beautiful decor pieces and unique kitchenware essentials so that everyone can enhance the style of their space and elevate the visual element of gatherings and get togethers, as well as decorate their baked creations with some of the same amazing products that I use myself. This was a big step for us and took a lot of quick learning and adaptability, but we are so happy that we did it. It has been so much fun sourcing products from artisans, both local and abroad, that we are sure you will love. We just want to say we are so grateful for you all.
With that being said, let’s get started with our first blog recipe that I’m sure you will love!
This is a simple recipe that you can make and enjoy with your family. These dessert snacks are perfect for fall gatherings or just to simply enjoy with your family on any occasion. Here’s what we’ll make:
Fresh apple pie dip with cinnamon sugar tortillas... By far my girls’ favourite snack! They ask for it all the time. I promise it is simple yet very tasty.
Fresh Apple Pie Dip
Here are the ingredients and steps needed to make the fresh apple pie dip:
Ingredients
2 cups peeled, cored, and diced apples
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
3 tbsp brown sugar
¼ tsp cinnamon
1 tsp corn starch dissolved in 1 tsp water
Instructions
Combine all the dip ingredients in a small pan except the corn starch-water mixture.
Heat for a few minutes until it’s boiling and has extracted juice from the apple.
Add the corn starch-water mixture to the “sauce”.
Stir until boiling and the sauce has thickened.
Set aside. You can serve this warm or chilled. It will taste delicious either way.
Sprinkle a little more cinnamon on top right before serving (if you like).
Serve with baked cinnamon-sugar tortilla chips!
The Apple dip is great with Baked Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chip so we had to share this recipe too as they are perfect together.
Baked Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chips
This sweet treat is the perfect addition to the fresh apple pie dip and it only requires 4 ingredients. They're buttery, flaky and the perfect treat to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Ingredients
1/2 cup of Melt buttery spread (or you can substitute with unsalted butter)
8 to 10 inch flour tortillas
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper (preferred) or tin foil.
In a large bowl that has a lid, microwave the butter for 1-2 minutes on low power, or until completely melted.
Cut the stack of tortillas into 12 wedges each. Dip each of the tortilla wedges in the melted butter and mix together making sure the tortillas are evenly coated.
Put the butter covered tortillas on the cookie sheets. Spread out nice and evenly.
In a small bowl combine the cinnamon and sugar. Toss the mixture over the buttered tortillas. Ensure they are all coated well.
Bake for 8-12 minutes or until lightly golden. Some of the chips may still appear soft, but upon cooling they will crisp up.
Allow to cool to room temperature and store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
I hope you get a chance to try out this recipe, and if you do, please give us a tag as we would love to see them all. Also, we have a video of the twins creating this receipe and you can watch it on our Instagram baking page @sweetdessertbarandco.
